Beach Volleyball Beach volleyball is played by two teams of two players on a beach court divided by a net Beach volleyball has evolved from the social game played on many beaches around the world. The competitive version is played on sand courts, which are either formed naturally or built specifically for the purpose. Teams consist of two players. Since its introduction as an Olympic sport in 1996, beach volleyball has become increasingly popular, with amateur and professional leagues springing up all over the world, although teams from the US and Brazil still remain dominant. The FIVB World Tour runs for a three to four-month period between June and September each year and is widely televised.
