Diving

Diving is the art of acrobatically jumping from a certain height into a pool, requiring agility and bravery.

Points from 0-10 are awarded for the degree of difficulty and execution of the dive from a 1m or 3m springboard, or a fixed 10m platform. Divers must state in advance which type of dive they will perform and are penalized for varying from their statement.

Synchronised diving tests the ability of two divers to perform in harmony. Synchronised events are held from the 3m springboard and 10m platform at the 15th Asian Games Doha 2006.

China is the recognized global power in diving after overturning a traditional US dominance. The Chinese 'dream team' took all eight golds in the 14th Asian Games Busan 2002, their seventh consecutive Games clean sweep since 1978.
